What is “peak” and “off-peak” wedding season? http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/2009/11/14/what-is-peak-and-off-peak-wedding-season/ http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/2009/11/14/what-is-peak-and-off-peak-wedding-season/#comments Sat, 14 Nov 2009 02:59:46 +0000 Administrator http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/?p=86 016

Undoubtibly, as your wedding planning progresses, you have seen referrences to “peak” and “off-peak” wedding seasons. But what does that mean for you? And, how can it help you with your wedding planning? That is easy.

Whenever you see “peak season”, it is a period where there is a high demand for space, or services in regard to holding/having weddings. In years past, that time usually has fallen somewhere between May – October of the year. Conversely, whenever you have seen a period referred to as “off-peak”, that is considered to be a time where there is a low demand on space, or services and it generally has fallen between November – April.

Now, these times can vary dependent on variables such as regions and weather. Perform local inquiries in your wedding market area to determine what is considered peak and off peak seasons. Sometimes, there are some really good savings to be had, if you are willing to be flexible.

Happy wedding planning!

Wedding “Day of Coordinators”…What you REALLY should expect http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/2009/11/08/wedding-day-of-coordinators-what-you-really-should-expect/ http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/2009/11/08/wedding-day-of-coordinators-what-you-really-should-expect/#comments Sun, 08 Nov 2009 02:21:15 +0000 Administrator http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/?p=78 Day of Wedding Coordination

If you are planning your wedding on your own, you have no doubt read, or heard this several times by now. “You can always hire a Day Of Cordinator”. Or, DOC. But…if you do choose to travel this route, please do consider the following.

Myth:

Wedding Planners can be hired at the end of the wedding process and can just jump in and take over.

Fact:

The term “Day-Of” for wedding coordination is misleading. Professional wedding consultants do not, and cannot come in at the end of your months long wedding planning process and just jump in knowing all and ready to do all for the “Day-of” your wedding.

Myth:

Wedding Consultants do not need much in order to tie everything up. After all, you have done everything in the way of wedding planning already.

Fact:

As with any good executed plan, there must be strategic design, organization, communication, and execution. Wedding consultants who are hired at the end of the wedding planning process are forced to work harder to catch up to speed, often sacrificing much of their time to serve you well on the day. Think about this. Most weddings are planned between approximately nine and fifteen months. That is a lot of time for the hired wedding consultant to play catch up with and then, have to turn around and articulate your vision to the other wedding professionals in relation to the wedding day.

Myth:

Because you have already done all the necessary planning, you do not need to spend much on the Day of Coordinator. You are thinking somewhere around $500 or so should take care of it.

Fact:

When a Bride hires a wedding company to perform any wedding planning service, she is hiring that company primarily in the capacity of consulting/planning for the execution of her wedding plan, up to and including the wedding day. Wedding consulting/planning translates into labor. Labor equals time. Time is the main mechanism by which these wedding planning companies generate their revenue. Just like with every “service/labor” company (i.e.: attorneys, electricians, CPAs, etc.), there is an hourly service labor rate that each wedding planning company earns. Fro your edification, the service industry rate ranges from $50 – $125 per hour. In general, companies who are more seasoned and work with customers who have higher budgets do tend to cost more.

A general breakdown of a wedding planning company’s time for your “Day-of” service, irrespective of what you have done already, may resemble something like this:
A minimum of 10 Wedding planning hours to get caught up;

1 – 2 Hours to coordinate the wedding rehearsal and pick up items for wedding;
2 Hours to arrive at the ceremony site before the wedding to oversee plans;

6 – 8 Wedding and Reception Management;

Up to 1 hour clean up (i.e.: pick up favors, re-pack up items to be returned to clients, etc.);

Multiply these hours by a typical $50 an hour wedding planning labor rate and the cost of this service is easily at $1,000. (The standard service industry rates fall between $50 – $125 an hour.) That is not considering any special dynamics to be added. As you can see, the wedding consultant did not just show up and manage the “Day-of” the wedding. He, or she had to “catch up” and “organize” the details so “he, or she” along with “her team” (because no wedding planner should ever show up to a wedding alone) may effectively and efficiently manage the wedding day.

Prices will vary by company and region. Day of Wedding Coordination is much more expensive in areas such as California’s wine country, Los Angeles and surrounding areas, New York’s tri-state area, suburbia New Jersey, and Texas to name a few.

Prices are always going to vary but do a little research about what the market area is bearing in terms of cost. A professional wedding planning company who is serious about their business and your wedding is not going to be had a bargain basement price. Here is a pretty good quote from a friend who gave me permission to share with you.

“The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a cheap price is forgotten.”

Cheers!

Enter, our personal friend and extraordinarily talented artist Alicia Brown of Make Up By Alicia (http://www.makeupbyalicia.com). You may remember Alicia from her work on a little known show called “the Atlanta Housewive of Atlanta” or from her talents seen on the BET Awards shows.

DIY Weddings: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly…2009 Fall Series http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/2009/05/25/diy-weddings-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly2009-summer-series/ http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/2009/05/25/diy-weddings-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly2009-summer-series/#comments Mon, 25 May 2009 00:35:36 +0000 Administrator http://newbeginningsweddings.com/blog/2009/05/25/diy-weddings-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly2009-summer-series/ 01.JPG

We probably all know someone who has been touched in some form or fashion by the current economic downturn.  As a matter of fact, I would venture to say that there are very few of us that have not been.

In the wedding world, this is seen through the way couples are cutting costs through performing many of the tasks themselves.  This is not a bad idea.  However, DIYing your wedding is not all good either.  The key to knowing when it is beneficial, and not, is in understanding what will happen when (and something will) you choose to do perform a wedding task yourself over hiring a professional.  Sometimes, Doing It Yourself (DIY) can actually prove detrimental to your dream wedding day.  We will talk more about examples in our Summer Series Articles/Posts.

Starting in August (we are delaying it because of the Summer) and continuing for a duration of nine weeks, we will be dedicating our 2009 fall series to showing you the good, bad and ugly between DIYing your wedding projects and hiring a reputable wedding professional to handle the same task. In addition, we will have some guest wedding industry professionals who will also be sharing their years of expertise to give you even more beneficial information.

It is our sincere objective to make this information invaluable toward your overall wedding planning and dream wedding day.

Cheers!
